Award-Winning Pool and Spa Renovation in Murrumba Downs

Located in Murrumba Downs, this award-winning pool renovation transformed an existing freeform swimming pool into a more inviting space for everyday relaxation. The renovation included the addition of a raised concrete spa and an integrated pool bench, carefully designed to complement the existing pool and surrounding outdoor area.

Completed by Queensland Family Pools & Spas, the project received Regional Gold in the Renovation up to $80,000 category at the 2026 SPASA Queensland Awards of Excellence. The result demonstrates how a thoughtfully planned pool renovation can add new functionality without losing the character of the original backyard.

Customer Brief

The client's brief was to enhance their existing pool by adding a spa where they could unwind each afternoon after a busy day. The spa needed to integrate seamlessly with the existing pool and surrounding outdoor area, becoming a natural extension of the current design rather than an addition that appeared retrofitted.

Design Requirements

Joining a new spa and bench to an existing pool required a high level of engineering, design precision, and waterproofing expertise. The interface between the two structures was critical; incorrect detailing or installation would have resulted in structural movement and significant water loss.

Extensive attention was given to structural connections and waterproofing systems to ensure long term stability and performance.

The renovation introduced a raised 2m × 2m concrete spa and a new bench within the existing pool. Connecting the new and existing structures required careful engineering, precise structural connections and reliable waterproofing to minimise the risk of movement or water loss.

The spa was positioned and finished to complement the original freeform pool, creating one cohesive pool and spa area rather than a later addition.
